Fonda, NY – Race fans will get to see wingless sprint car racing at the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway this Saturday, June 29 for the first time ever at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds facility. The Rapid Tire USAC East Coast 360 Wingless Sprint Cars presented by Capital Custom Trailers will invade the Fonda Speedway along with all other regular divisions in competition with racing starting at 7:00 p.m.
Regular divisions at Fonda include the Amsterdam Truck Center Modifieds, the Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman, the Leatherstocking Credit Union Pro Stocks, the Montgomery County Office for Aging Inc. Limited Sportsman, and the Fonda Fair Four cylinders.
According to the USAC East Coast Sprint Car website www.usaceastcoastsprintcars.myracepass.com in 1955, the United States Auto Club sanctioning body was born. The club has grown to sanction a national 410 series, West Coast 360 series, Champ Cars, Quarter Midgets, full size Midgets, Pavement Sprint Cars, and more. In 2018, the sanctioning body extended their reach to the East Coast in a series run by husband and wife, Curt and Jenn Michael.
The series stretches from Pennsylvania to New Jersey, New York, and Delaware. The inaugural ten race season began in April and ended in August while in 2024 the season began in April and will run through November. USAC East Coast works in conjunction with winged 360 series, the United Racing Club, to give 360 car owners, teams, and drivers the best schedules possible. USAC East Coast looks forward to bringing East Coast race fans the wingless sprint car racing they've been asking for!
The USAC East Coast Sprint Car Series has run five events so far in 2024 with Briggs Danner winning two of those events (Bedford Speedway and Williams Grove) while Joey Amantea (Port Royal), Alex Bright (Georgetown), and Kenny Miller III (Delaware) all have single event victories.
As of the last event back on 6/7 of this year at Williams Grove, which was won by Briggs Danner, the point standings are currently led by Steven Drevicki (415) followed in the top five by Alex Bright (402), Ed Aikin (348), Christian Bruno (345), and Danner (341).
It has been awhile since the USAC Sprint Cars have been in the Empire State of New York, as stated it will be there first time ever at Fonda but not the first time in the state of New York. Previous events in New York State were won by Eddie Strada at Glen Ridge in 2019, Steven Drevicki at Orange County back in July of 2020, and most recently Billy VanInwegen in a rain shortened event at Orange County back in October of 2021.
The Fonda Speedway Kid’s Club will be holding “Panel Night” this Saturday, June 29 where drivers from any and all divisions can donate a panel off of their racecars. Please bring the panels to the Kid’s Club which is located at gate two under the covered grandstands.
If you are a race fan that gets to the track early, be sure to check out the Fonda Speedway Museum & Hall of Fame which is located on the Fonda Fairgrounds at the rear of the parking area going down towards turn four. The museum is open from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on race days and admission is free!
